Moments ago St. Johns College student Danielle Dorsett won the coveted title of Hall Jackson Talented Teen Bahamas.
From the moment she hit the stage it was apparent that she was a clear winner- at least it was to me. Bearing in mind I was late after a wonderful photo-shoot at exotic Nygard Cay. I rushed to my seat moments before this talented young teen blew away the standing room only audience at The Rain Forrest Theatre. She took the mike from the M.C as if she was a veteran entertainer and had done it hundreds of times before. She belted out what seemed to be a favourite song for her. As I sat there stunned I began to chant winner, winner not taking long to get into the spirit of the contest. Coincidentally I just happened to sit at a table where the people agreed with me and joined in my chant. Many in ballroom also began chanting louder and as the momentum kept building, 15 year old DANIELLE DORSETTE began hitting some very high notes. The audience was pleased and the in turn cheered louder, they were now at fevers pitch and this talented teen delivered the lyrics un-phased.
When the dust cleared some of the other performances appeared to be a blur as if the entire room was waiting for her to be crowned. When her name was called she accepted graciously took her walk, beaming brighter than a g.e. light bulb. Afterwards she was flanked by family, well wishers and school (Saint Johns College) friends.
That was the scene at the 35th annual Hall Jackson Talented Teen Scholarship Competition/Pageant.
Other talented teens in the competition were Jerell Rahming, Rachae Josey, Khadijah Claridge, Christian Gordon, Shanton Evans, Cassandra Barr and Venique Heild.
Entertainment for the event was provided by smooth brothers Ken (Royalty) Major & Khalil (Angel) Rahming better known as C.R.E.A.M acronym for Christ rules everything around me. The duo delivers the gospel of Christ through rap. Their easy delivery of their well written was appreciated by the audience. Also hitting the stage that night was Jarvis Grant, and crew who delivered a stunning tap dance number. Jarvis and his crew are also responsible for the first Bahamian circus Emanji.
Kudos to Novi Pierre, a past winner of (H.J.T.T.B) and her entire crew for producing an excellent show and to Danielle's Saint Johns Crew who represented in full effect.
Daniele will travel to compete in international competition, which will be held on the 25th and 26th of July.
