Help For Haiti Concert

HELP FOR HAITI CONCERT I was not born in Haiti but Haiti was borne in me. Mecca aka Grimo.

Powerful words from American born Haitian Spoken Word Artist Mecca aka Grimo, who recently performed at The "Help for Haiti" Concert, Rain Forest Theatre- Nassau, Bahamas.

The Concert was produced by The Ministry of Culture and The Bahamas Musicians and Entertainers Union. It was held in aid of the victims of the catastrophic earthquake that rocked Haiti on January 12th 2010.
Also performing on that bill were The Royal Bahamas Police Force Band, The Defense Force Band, The Prison Pop Band, Berkley Van Byrd, Paul Hanna, The Falcons and a local Haitian band named Lakol just to name a few.
Mecca aka Grimo, who is also a very popular Rap Kreyol artist in the states, was invited to the country by Junkanoo Beat Media Company. While here he took the opportunity to mentor some children. He met with the contestants of the Miss & Teen Bahamas Galaxy Pageants slated for April 4th 2010 and spoke to them about going after and attaining their goals. He also met with a number of teenagers in the popular community called "52" where many Haitians reside, many of whom are trying to break into the music industry. He gave them much needed advice in that area but also spoke to them about their career goals.

Mecca aka Grimo was also a guest on the popular radio talk show called "Calling Haiti" heard on 102.9 Island F.M, hosted by Kelly Norte. He and co-hosts Granise Jean Louis, Ronald Pierre along with Captain G. The radio show was an open forum discussion about how we can begin to rebuild the devastated island and to identify some initiatives on the way forward. Listeners were able to call in and speak to Grimo about the subject matter and about his burgeoning career. The radio station also debuted Mecca aka Grimo's song he wrote for the earthquake victims " Ne Me Laisse Pa Mourir" produced by MadMan JP.

Well on his way to stardom he has recently collaborated with well known Ragga Kompa artist Top Adlerman, on the song Pale Yo and joined him onstage as his special guest at a concert held in Nassau on Sunday evening.
Mecca aka Grimo and Top Adlerman have worked together in the past on ventures such as "Nou Ki La", "Haitian Massive" and most recently "Response 7.0" which a collaborative tribute to the earthquake victims with several celebrities on one song . So when both of them were in Nassau it was a pleasant surprise to have them both on stage.

Mecca has also ventured into the movie industry and was featured in a movie recently called 'Kidnapping' highlighting another serious problem in Haiti.
He spoke candidly about his next movies ,'American Zoe", "Miami Stripped" and "A Mistaken Look" all soon to be released by the summer. He also has donated a free Haiti Relief EP available for free online. This EP is a therapeutic musical compilation to help console the souls that have had to witness the loss of family members or the destruction of the Homeland of Haiti. "We all have a job to do and we must do what GOD has sent us to do" Mecca aka Grimo states. Look for the New Movies, New Music, New Spoken Word and other projects currently in the making in 2010.
