The Major Pain Urban Youth programme held its 1st annual Christmas party recently. The event was held through Strachans Alley the area where it is headquartered. The multi-faceted programme commenced in July 2006 and boasts of a number of activities involving our countrys youth all of which are geared to guide the youth in the right direction.

Promoters of this event Meacher Major, Professional Boxer and Michelle Brady, President of the programme both agree that the event is important enough to make it an annual one.

Speaking on behalf of the programme Major explained the reasoning behind the event, We are producing this event is to bring peace happiness & love to the urban kids that dont really have that opportunity to experience it. This is going to be the first time ever doing a Christmas party, and we look forward to making it an annual event. We just did a very successful back to school event, August 8th, which is also held annually.

The all day event drew people from all walks of life that endorsed the project wholeheartedly. One of them professional chorographer Stephen Robinson was pleased to have been asked to be apart of the inaugural event. I was immensely impressed by the work that Meacher is doing in his community, and I am only sorry that I have not done more to assist him. In addressing the young kids he advised them to appreciate what was being done for them and to appreciate and accept Meacher Major as a hero in their community. In talking about his host he believes that this event along with the back to school event was being done from the heart and hopes that Meacher continues his efforts and promised to support him in a more fruitful way next time. He added, I definitely felt the Christmas spirit at that party and it brought back a lot of childhood memories.

Reverend Ivan Butler, Sister Marva Rolle and Pastor Clement Nelly also spoke at the special event.

A number of exciting Bahamian artists from the secular and gospel world performed on the show, such as up and coming gospel artist Craig Chase Gibson who recently released his album entitled SEND ME. Master dazzled the crowd around him informing them together they can fly. Rudell Rudon also performed and well known persons from the sporting world such as Tom The Bird Grant and Mario Ford also attended.

Also apart of the exciting lineup was Master Brian Beckford from the society of Shotokan Stylist, Karate School and Fitness Center who provided a martial arts exhibition to entertain the kids. It was well received and the kids were also shown some techniques in self-defense. Master Beckford and his team were proud to have been apart of the special day.

The day also included free movies, food drinks, bouncing castles gift bags and a host of other things too numerous to mention. One of the most memorable was the Domino Tournament a favourite pastime for many Bahamians. It went like most Domino tournaments do, with the most vociferous persons receiving the most beating. Overall it was quite an eventful day, which could not of been possible without the assistance of friends, family and various sponsors some of whom included, Asa H. Pritchards, Woodside Photography, Dalbeans Agency, Brother B & R Snack World, M & M Goods, Lowes Pharmacy, Buttons Formal Wear, The Vendetta Group, Thompson Trading, Jackies Party Line, Virgo Car Rental, Rainbow Flowers, Yodiphey Dance School and Bahamas Wholesale Agencies.
